bed rest and beyond

Hyperemesis Gravidarum, Preeclampsia, Hypertension, Multiple Babies, Placenta Previa, Premature Rupture of Membranes, Gestational Diabetes, Incompetent Cervix, Unexplained Bleeding, Low Amniotic Fluid... and just plain old High Risk.

Just reading those words can stress out an expecting mom and her partner. But actually, living with these diagnoses and dealing with the daily limitations that come with maintaining the health of mom and baby (babies) during this time make the stress worse.

Because of this, some mothers have to be put on bed rest during pregnancy by their obstetricians to ensure a safe and healthy delivery. This is why an antepartum doula (which means “before birth”) is important. Bed Rest and Beyond is a service that we offer to any mother that is experiencing a not so normal pregnancy. We provide services similar to what you found with our postpartum service, but before the baby arrives.

The goal of the antepartum doula is to help you get as close to full term in your pregnancy as possible and to deliver healthy.

Bed Rest and Beyond offers:

  • Errands and pick ups
  • Delivering business correspondence
  • Grocery shopping
  • Light housekeeping

Cesarean Support

Doulas can be an incredible source of help for any birth outcome, including a C-Section. Combining a wealth of knowledge and experience, doulas bring emotional, physical, and educational support to each and every client.

  • Emotional Support - Any surgery can be fraught with worry, stress, and a general sense of uncertainty. This is super normal but especially when faced with a surgery to bring your baby into the world. Not only does this affect your life, it affects the life of your unborn baby! It’s no wonder there’s a huge need for emotional support when your birth plan includes a Cesarean. We know all about common procedures, options, and exactly what will happen once you embark upon your birth. We'll walk you and your partner through each and every step beforehand and be there to affirm and support during and after.

  • Physical Support - Once your procedure is complete and you’re in recovery, often women find themselves sore and uncomfortable or even nauseated from the experience. After all this major surgery! The Laborhood is skilled and experienced in helping you through these physical symptoms as well as helping you to nurse your baby as soon as possible if you decide to breastfeed.

Military Family Support

Military service members and their families are often stationed miles and even oceans away from extended family. Having a Doula would be a wonderful asset during childbirth. But there are several reasons why a military family would want to hire one:

  • No extended family nearby
  • Help in advocating your wishes
  • Support after birth

We proudly offer a military discount to all active duty and retired military members and their spouses. We appreciate your service to our country and hope that we can give back to you in a small way for the big sacrifice you have made for us.
